She taught 6th grade Wewoka Public School
from 1974-1976. In 1976 she started the first counseling
program at Wewoka Middle School. In 1978 she became the Wewoka
High School Counselor and served in that position until January
0f 2000 when she retired from education and began working in the
mental health field. During the course of this journey she
became a National Certified Counselor in 1984 and in 1986 became
an Oklahoma Licensed Professional Counselor. She currently
holds the position of Clinical Director at Stepping Stones, Inc.
where she is in management, however still does counseling on a
daily basis. Marilyn has also served in the higher education
system working with the University of Oklahoma as a Career
Counselor and an adjunct professor at East Central State
University.
During her counseling career she has experienced a variety
of different disciplines including career counseling, teaching
leadership skills, survival skills, management skills, peer
relationships and expertise in the substance abuse areas, as
well as supervised and coordinated many types of programs both
in mental health and education fields.
She is currently active in many professional and civic
organizations including the American Counseling Association,
Oklahoma Counseling Association, Oklahoma Mental Health
Association and the Oklahoma Educators and Supervisors
Association. Marilyn has been a member of the counseling
association since 1976 where she has held numerous leadership
positions. She is currently serving as Executive Director of
Oklahoma Counseling and President of Oklahoma Counseling
Association Southeast Region. She has also served one term on
the Oklahoma Licensed Professional Counselors Advisory
Board. Marilyn was named by her counseling peers in the
Oklahoma Counseling Association as the Counselor of the Year in
2000. In May of 2006 she was inducted into the Seminole State College Educational Foundation Alumni Hall of Fame and was honored during their annual recognition banquet. The Seminole State Hall of Fame was created to honor former students whose personal and professional achievements have been a source of pride for the institution and other alumni. Marilyn joined 42 other alumni who have been inducted during the past 13 years. Her picture hangs along with other inductees in Seminole State College Student Center. |
